IT STARTED IN A GARAGE...
GEN-Y Hitch began with Carl Borkholder, a hardworking business owner running a tree trimming operation. His truck was not a luxury. It was a tool he relied on every day. And like many people who tow for a living, Carl was constantly frustrated.
Different jobs required different trailers. Different trailers required different hitches. Switching hitches wasted time, added frustration, and made no sense for someone who just needed to get the job done.
So Carl did what builders do. He went into his garage, took receiver tubes, and welded them together to create one adjustable hitch that could handle multiple needs.
It worked.
WHEN OTHERS STARTED ASKING
Soon after Carl put the hitch to work, people noticed. Friends and family started asking where he got it. Then they asked if he could build one for them.
That is when Carl realized there was a real gap in the market. There was no truly heavy-duty, adjustable hitch built for people who tow every day.
In 2012, Carl decided to partner with Joel, a close friend, to help turn the idea into a business. In the early days, their goal was simple.
“If we could sell one hitch a day, we would have made it big.”
Fast forward many years, GEN-Y Hitches are now sold and distributed globally.
THE BIRTH OF THE TORSION-FLEX TECHNOLOGY
Carl was never satisfied with solving just one problem. Even with adjustability figured out, he wanted towing to feel better.
He looked to torsion axles, a proven technology that had been used for many years to create smoother trailer suspension. Carl believed the same concept could be applied to a hitch.
That idea became the patented TORSION-FLEX Technology.
By incorporating rubber arms that acted as controlled torsion movement into the hitch itself, GEN-Y dramatically reduced shock transfer between the truck and trailer. The result was a smoother, more enjoyable towing experience that customers could feel immediately.
This innovation changed the towing market and redefined what drivers expected from their equipment.
GROWING BEYOND THE HITCH
As the TORSION-FLEX Technology proved its value, GEN-Y expanded it into additional products and markets.
Today, GEN-Y Hitch designs and manufactures far more than hitches. Our lineup includes aftermarket accessories, aluminum loading ramps, pin boxes, and more, all built with the same focus on strength, safety, and real world performance.
