The MEGA-DUTY 16K Drop Hitch (2" Shank)

Routine care is minimal. Before each towing trip, inspect the locking pins, the ball mount attachment, and the receiver pin for wear or damage. Make sure nothing is bent, cracked, or corroded beyond the powder coat. Apply a light coat of grease or anti-seize lubricant to the pin holes and the inside of the stacked tube once or twice a season. This prevents galling and makes height adjustments easier. If you tow in salt-water environments (boat launches, coastal roads) or through winter road salt, rinse the hitch with fresh water after exposure. The silver-vein powder coat is durable, but chips from rocks or impacts should be touched up with rust-inhibiting paint to keep corrosion from spreading. Aside from that, the all-steel construction and the limited lifetime warranty mean this hitch is built to outlast most of the trucks it rides on.

Yes. GEN-Y designs and tests every MEGA-DUTY hitch for use in both the drop and rise positions at the full rated capacity. This means you can flip the stacked tube to raise the ball mount above the receiver opening instead of lowering it. Rise mode is useful when towing a trailer with a higher coupler height than your receiver, which can happen with some stock-height trucks pulling taller utility or equipment trailers. The rise range mirrors the drop range for each configuration. One exception: for flat towing (pulling a vehicle on a tow dolly or with a tow bar), GEN-Y specifies that the drop or rise must not exceed 7.5". Contact GEN-Y directly if your flat-towing setup falls outside that range.

• Park your truck on level ground with a typical bed load (or empty, if that is how you normally tow).
• Measure from the ground to the center of your 2" receiver tube.
• Subtract 14" from that measurement to determine your optimal drop.
  

The MEGA-DUTY 16K is available in drop sizes from 5" all the way to 21", so there is a configuration for most truck and trailer combinations. If your calculated drop falls between two available sizes, GEN-Y recommends choosing the drop length closest to your measurement.

Yes. The stacked-tube design uses locking pins to hold the ball mount in place. To switch from the dual-ball attachment to the pintle lock (or vice versa), pull the locking pins, slide the current attachment out of the tube, slide in the new one, and re-insert the pins. The whole process takes less than a minute and does not require wrenches or any other hand tools. This is one of the key advantages of the MEGA-DUTY design: a single hitch can serve a standard bumper-pull trailer with a ball coupler, a pintle-ring trailer on a job site, a bike rack for the weekend, or a cargo carrier for a road trip. You just swap the attachment and go.

The MEGA-DUTY 16K is rated at 2,000 lbs tongue weight across all drop sizes. That said, physics plays a role at longer drops. A longer stacked tube creates more leverage on the receiver, which is why GEN-Y includes or recommends the stabilizer kit at 12.5" and above. The stabilizer distributes that lever force into the truck frame rather than concentrating it at the receiver. So while the rated tongue weight stays the same, using the stabilizer kit at longer drops is what keeps the setup safe and stable at full capacity. If you plan to tow near the tongue weight limit with a 15" or longer drop, installing the stabilizer is not optional. It is part of the engineered system.
